Why I’m keeping my 9-5 job | me

When starting a side hustle, there comes a time when you consider quitting your day job to go “all-in” on it.

I think there is honor in this approach, but it’s also respectable to keep your 9-5 while you build in your free time.

In this article, I discuss why I’m keeping my 9-5.

For now, at least.

3 videos on keeping/quitting your 9-5

I left consulting (forever) | Why I left, my professional journey, and what I’m doing next | Taylor Bell

Taylor is a UPenn Wharton grad who used to work in consulting and is now a full-time content creator.

She landed her first job at the consulting firm, Oliver Wyman, and at the same time began to grow her YouTube channel, sharing consulting and finance tips.

After some time at this firm, she got an offer from her top choice, the prestigious Boston Consulting Group (BCG). At the time of receiving the offer from BCG, Taylor’s YT channel had already grown to +100K subscribers.

During the 3 month gap period between jobs she hit YouTube hard and her videos continued to pop off.

She worked at BCG for over a year, but eventually quit to pursue content creation full-time. In this video, she breaks down her whole journey and explains why she took this path.

Her story is so inspiring for many out there, and it is one of the reasons why her channel has grown so much over the last few years.

It just goes to show you, it’s possible to absolutely tear it up on social media even while working a very time consuming 9-5 job.

If you’ve gotten your “dream” 9-5, and you still have a lack of fulfillment, it’s not too late to pivot.

Many of us are on a path laid out by society, or by our parents, or try to follow the same paths as other people from our college. But it’s important to take some time to consider what YOU actually want to do.

Ultimately, it’s your life. You can do what you want with it.

If you’re like me and you feel the need to scratch this itch, it’s important to consider keeping your 9-5 for a bit longer.

The responsible move is to stay at your 9-5 until your side hustle income exceeds that of your 9-5. You should also have an emergency fund with several months of backup cash ready in case your cashflow runs dry.

This path won’t be easy. But if you want it bad enough, anything is possible.

I Quit My $300,000 Banking Job After Learning 3 Things | Nischa

Nischa is a former Investment Banker who quit her job to pursue a career she’s created on her own terms.

In this video, she breaks down:

  • why she quit her extremely lucrative job

  • controlling your own destiny

  • getting paid to have an impact on others and doing what you love

  • get clear on what you actually want, not what society wants for you

”The company you work for, ultimately, doesn’t owe you anything but a paycheck.”

“I could never truly be financially independent and financially free so long as I’m letting someone else have more control over my financial life than I do.”

It’s easier now than it ever was to make money doing what you love. The golden handcuffs of your corporate job will pay the bills for now, but you’re always at risk of getting laid off or fired.

Trading time for money is simply not it.

    • We were founded on one simple idea: “The tools you need to grow your business shouldn’t put you out of business.” So we’re bringing you insane software deals that give small businesses big business energy.

  • Phenomenal content.

  • Beast.

In this video, Noah talks about overcoming the fear of starting, several examples of people he knows with side hustles, and why keeping your job is totally fine.

If you want to start something but you’re afraid of the word “Business”…listen to Noah who says, “Business is common sense.”

It’s not this massive unattainable thing that you need a massive list of credentials for.

Study people who have created value through their businesses, try to replicate them, and maybe even try to improve what they’re already doing.

Don’t overthink it. Try something.

If it doesn’t work, fine. Figure out what does.
